The evening will feature a talkback with David Shire, Richard Maltby Jr., and members of the original cast.

Three couples, each newly expecting a child, have different but familiar reactions: Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together; Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving; Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband, Alan, is thrilled at the prospect of a new baby. Throughout the show, these characters experience the emotional stress and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby.

Baby opened on December 4, 1983 at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre.  The production received seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and six Drama Desk Award nominations, including Outstanding Musical, winning two Drama Desk Awards—Outstanding Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical. 

Transport Group’s Artistic Director Jack Cummings III says: “Baby has always been one of my absolute favorite musicals and Transport Group is thrilled to revisit this beautiful score and story that is funny, timeless, and deeply poignant.  We’re excited to be a gathering a star-studded group of actors to pay tribute to the stunning achievement of Baby and all the original artists who created this magnificent show.”

The End

I am so sad to be playing the final performance of RATED P FOR PARENTHOOD at the Westside Theatre today at 3. This experience has been so special to me. Over the course of almost 2 years I have been given the gift of being in a room with my friends and playing and laughing, and for that I am eternally grateful. The developmental stages of this show were some of the best times I have ever spent in a rehearsal room. RATED P was a true example of collaboration and creativity and I will never forget the time I spent working on it.

Happy Leap Day

I will be celebrating Leap Day by opening an Off-Broadway musical today.

When Courtney Met Jeff

So I have officially met Jeff Blumenkrantz 3 times now (4 if you count in the lobby of the Marriott Marquis after a matinee of DAMN YANKEES in 1994). In the last few months we continuously ran into one another socially and have become friendly. I was honored when he asked me to perform on his podcast, Month Upon A Time.

He is super talented and fancy and I have been a fan of his for YEARS. Its fun to meet people you are a fan of and even better when they are so kind and fun.

New York, NY (December 9, 2011) – Producers Andrew Asnes and Timothy Schmidt have announced the New York Premiere of the new musical comedy Rated P for Parenthood.  Following on the heels of a successful World Premiere at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in May, 2011, Rated P will begin performances on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 with Opening Night set for Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43^rd Street).

With book and lyrics by Sandy Rustin, music and lyrics by Dan Lipton & David Rossmer and direction by Jeremy Dobrish, Rated P for Parenthood chronicles every stage of modern-day parenting, from conception to college, with giant doses of heart and humor.  A versatile cast of four takes the audience through the ups and downs of childrearing – from the sublime to the ridiculous – in a series of comic and musical vignettes in under 90 minutes.  A hilarious, fresh, and decidedly irreverent look at an age old topic, Rated P provides all the wistful joy of childrearing …at a fraction of the cost of braces!

Sandy Rustin commented, “Comedy greats will tell you to “write what you know.”  So when, in a postpartum haze, I accidentally sent a photo of my newborn son (and my own vagina) to everyone I know – naturally I wrote a show about it.  This show is a quilt of parenting moments – the hilarious, the heartbreaking, and the humiliating – all based on real life moments from me, my family, and my friends. I am thrilled to share it with New York audiences.”

Last week in Atlanta

It is Sunday morning and I have one more week in Atlanta and INTO THE WOODS.If you live nearby and haven’t seen the show, you have 10 more chances.

 It has been an amazing 2 months here and I will miss this group so much. I updated my blog with some pictures and info about the show (see above Show Pages).
